It’s time to renew your membership. They are good until the end of June. The cost (no increase) is only $20 for an individual or $30 for a household. Considering that Striders will give you back $15 for each of the four races of the quarter, it has got to be the best deal around. And of course you’ll belong to the best running club in Houston with the best training program, best events and the best running buds!

SignMeUp hosts our online system. There are two different SignMeUp options. One is for renewal payment only as it will just ask you the questions needed to process your payment. The other asks you for all of your membership info.

Use this if any of your info has changed. It is the same form as we use for new memberships. Links follows:

Renewal payment only https://www.signmeup.com/site/online-event-registration/67734

Full membership update https://www.signmeup.com/site/reg/register.aspx?fid=XT2VNK7

You can also get to the full membership update from the Strider home page. Look on the top right for membership renewal.

SignMeUp charges an extra $2 or so, but it is convenient. You can also send in a check and renewal form to the Striders. I’ll give details in another message.

After you renew, you’ll get a confirmation message with your new expiration date. Some members have already renewed. Disregard this message if that is you.

If you have questions, email me at membership@strider-members.org.

Striders,

The boot camp warriors love the Tuesday workouts and want MORE so we are going to add a hill/core workout session on Thursdays at the hill. We will do a warm-up, a hill set, total body core exercises and then more hill sets and then a cool down. If you are interested in just running, you can do the sets back-to-back so this workout will accommodate all runners, no matter what your interest and level. If you plan on joining in on the exercises, please bring a yoga mat/towel and small weights (optional).

Location: George Bush Park @ Highway 6 between Memorial Drive and Briarhills Parkway @ 6:30 p.m. Parking lot is located on westside of Highway 6.

Please note that we will be sharing the hill with the ATP group so if there isn’t any parking available in the parking lot, you can go to the light at Briarhills Parkway, turn left and can park in the office building parking lot. You’ll have to go to the trail and walk underneath the bridge to the hill. Call me if you have any questions.

We will be visiting the OKRA Charity Saloon, Flying Saucer and Mongoose versus Cobra.

Hey Striders!

Just a brief report of those Striders that survived the 80 degree heat and 15 mph winds down in Corpus….well everyone did except for the organizer who is still limping a bit as he writes this BTB wrap-up. I am proud to say we took four teams into the Crucible of Corpus and came out with virtually flawless hand-offs, but more importantly all four teams placed and got Strider honor and hardest hardware of all, Tile.

Here is the roll of honor:

Houston Master Alliance: John Yoder (Captain), Steve Schroeder, Doug Schroeder, John Hill, Tom King, and Andrew Sharenson: time of 2:40:19, 1st place Master’s Men, 10th Overall. This is their 2ndyear in a row to win the division, though on a different note they did confess to being 1 second slower than last year and are still trying to figure who cost them that second!

60 Up Striders: Jim Peiffer (Captain), John Emmons, Barry Chambers, Tom Woltz, Lev Gutman, and Dave Stadnick: time of 3:57:39, 2nd place Ultra Senior Men. They missed 1st place by only 2 minutes, and were left pondering if they only ran 4 seconds per mile faster they would have won. I heard various stories on this possibility, but one team member indicated that more speed may have equaled the loss of more Striders!

Cheetah Chicks: Lindsey Chase (Captain), Stephanie Webb, Maria Mandell, Karen Bowman, Jen Smith, and Kimberly McClintic: time of 3:45:47, 10th place Open Women out of 407 teams. Five of them just joined the Striders prior to the race, a very fine team containing some ex-collegiate and top road race finishers. The only unbelievable error they made is five of them left before the awards ceremony! Well I sure this will not happen again and please welcome them into the club.

Buffalo Striders: Miriam Terc (Captain), Sabra Harvey, Alison Stewart, Predag Bojovic, Darrell Yarbrough, and Jack McClintic: time of 3:13:25, 1st place Senior Mixed. For a beat up 50 year old guy this was a dream team composed of the most important ingredient for any good mixed team, fast women!

We all had a great time, great food, and good fellowship. There were a few obstacles like slow service at one restaurant and some loud karaoke music that went until 2:00 am before the race. But like any good runner, we all persevered, gathered up some food and accommodation work-arounds for next year, and had the wonderful satisfaction of having our cars riding a little bit lower back to Houston with all that Strider Tile!
